LANG & POTTER
Behind the Scenes
Over the past decade, the Lang and Potter Group has undergone significant upgrades, with substantial investment in equipment, premises, processes, and people. The footprint of our premises has increased by 60%, with multiple sites now operating across Plymouth.
All workshops and offices have adopted the latest 6S and Health & Safety practices, monitored through a programme of quarterly audits. These improvements are supported by the introduction of a Quality Framework to enhance our production operations.
Commitments of this scale enable Lang and Potter to remain at the forefront of our industry in quality and sustainability.
We have embraced technological advances, and our CNC operations continue to grow; we now operate five machines across the group, with the ability to cut many different materials from timber, composite sheets and plastics to fabrics and vinyl.

Joinery
We are not just about upholstery; we have a fully equipped joinery workshop to support all our companies. In here you can find CNC machines to cut wood and plastic, and an oven to Thermoform the plastic too. Our skilled operatives then assemble the components by hand.

All wood used across our business is supplied by FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) Chain of Custody-certified suppliers. We use a range of timber, including MDF, plywood, chipboard, and softwoods, across the business. These materials provide structure to our substrates in items such as sofas and headboards.

We use cellular PVC in many of our products, particularly for outdoor applications, as it is highly water- and mould-resistant, extremely pliable, and lightweight. Its combination of durability and low weight makes it an excellent choice for weight-sensitive applications. Our principal plastics suppliers are chosen because of their comprehensive focus on recycling the offcuts of their products.
Cutting
The Cutting Room provides all our material cutting services. The department operates two CNC machines to cut all fabrics from digital patterns, with the exception of leather. Materials such as leather require close inspection and are hand-cut by our experienced operatives.

Sewing
Our Sewing Hub is one of the busiest areas in the company. All upholstery skins, covers, and bedding are processed using our range of commercial sewing machines and overlockers. The experienced team also carries out many repairs by hand.

External Upholstery focuses on all outdoor furniture, such as sunbeds, sofas, chaise pads, and infills, using a variety of tools including foam saws, steamers, band saws, and heat guns.

Headboards and helm seats have their own domains too busy with key customer orders, from substrates in joinery through to upholstery and everything in between.
In addition, we have numerous finishing workshops that orbit these main teams, specialising in products as diverse as vanity panels, bunk surrounds or soft furnishings. All the dedicated units contain experts who focus on intricate items of more the bespoke nature.

Upholstery
We have many upholstery workshops focusing on customers and commodities across our sites, each overseen by their own production managers and supervisory teams.
Each operational centre has a team specialising in their own division of the company.

Internal furniture specialises in sofas, chairs, stools, drawers, and upholstered kickboards, often working with high-end leathers and timber substrates.

Branding For You
We are very much B2B and proud to work with our customers with their customer branding, with both debossing and embroidery facilities in-house.
Debossing: Our highly trained operatives use a combination of heat and pressure, applied with a traditional stamp press, to brand materials with the client’s logo or design.

Embroidery: Our high-precision embroidery is carried out using a ZSK Sprint 7 industrial embroidery machine. The pattern files for this equipment are created by our Research and Development team.
Materials Management
We have 3 warehouses across our sites, all servicing different areas of the business.
Our materials team: Purchasing, Stores & logistics work diligently to ensure the right materials are available at the right time, in the right quantities at the right cost, minimising waste and optimising the supply chain.
